Windows Phone 8 Leaks – New Features

Microsoft said that Windows Phone 8 got some interesting new features. That is confirmed with the recent leak of the Windows Phone 8 SDK. The leaked SDK can only be installed on a 64bit Windows 8 machine, no emulators will work.

New Features Windows Phone 8

The kernel has been changed from the aging CE kernel to the same kernel that is used in the desktop version of Windows 8. It has Bitlocker and device encryption along with Exchange ActiveSync solutions for the enterprise. It also has IE10, just like desktop versions, and the same version of Skype and VoIP infrastructures.

An interesting fact is that the SDK is not alowing old Silverlight applications to be ported to Windows 8 via HTML5 or JavaScript. It doesn’t support JavaScript at all. You can still create Silverlight applications but only for Windows Phone 7.1, which is odd for an SDK made for Windows 8.

Music/Video and Xbox hubs were integrated more closely along with SmartGlass features. A good addon in Maps is that users can find nearby hotspots. Windows Phone 8 will be able to talk and share files with others through BlueTooth and within the phone itself.
